These ships are the fourth through the eighth ships of the class, LPDs 21-24. Solicitation N00024-00-R-2224 will be issued to Litton/Avondale Industries, New Orleans, LA for these requirements on a sole source basis, as they are the only known company with the detailed technical knowledge of the LPD 17 Class design and the production capability necessary to produce these ships in accordance with the required delivery schedule.
