58 -- SOURCES SOUGHT FOR LASER INTERROGATION/RF RESPONSE COMBAT ID SYSTEM DUE 081700 POC Point of Contact is Wayne Calabretta, Procurement Coordinator, (732)427-5272 E-MAIL: Sources Sought Laser Interrogation/RF Response Combat, wayne.calabretta@iews.monmouth.army.mil. The United States Army Communications and Electronics Command (USACECOM) Acquisition Center and PM Combat Identification (PM CI) are seeking sources for a laser interrogation/RF response Combat Identification System that may be mounted on small arms (e.g. M16, M4, M249, M240) for use by dismounted infantry soldiers. Interrogations should be based on a laser query that can be initiated by the individual soldier while aiming at a potential target. In case the target is friendly and equipped with the responding subsystem, the querying soldier must be notified by optical and/or acoustic means. The response should be based on RF. Given an unobstructed line of sight and weather conditions permitting seven (7) kilometers visibility, the system should provide the following probabilities of correct identification (PcId); Within a range from 5 m up to 500 m, PcId should be 0.975 between prone soldiers. Between standing soldiers, PcId should be 0.95 within a range from 500 m to 1000 m. This is a market survey requesting information only. No solicitation will be issued against this notice. If there is any resultant solicitation, it will be publicized in accordance with FAR Part 5. This survey is also issued in accordance with the requirements of FAR Part 10 to determine the applicability of FAR Part 12, "Acquisition of Commercial Items". Depending on the outcome of this survey, sources may be asked to provide mature hardware (either COTS or as a result of R&D) to be tested by a government agency prior to any procurement decision. Responses are only being sought from sources with existing hardware or in the process of developing hardware; paper designs are not being considered at this time.
