The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) through the Program Support Center, General Acquisitions Branch intends to award a twelve month Simplified Acquisition to The National Education Assocation (NEA). A program will be developed to reduce the mental health stress experienced by teachers. A national meeting of a special advisory group shall be convened to review existing theoretical and empirical studies of the behavioral, psychological, and health effects of stress. The advisory group will be responsible for the development by expert external consultants of materials for a Stress Self-Assessment Kit for teachers. A method for gathering feedback will be developed as well. A 20-30 minute training video showing challenges faced by teachers who work to create and maintain safe and orderly schools. will be produced. The anticipated award date is July 3, 2000.
