E-MAIL: Marie D. Kliment, marie.d.kliment1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the purchase or 8 Laser Diode Arrays (P/N ARR21P300) and 1 Driver (Model No. 2900). The laser diode arrays will be used to build a development laser cell which could eventually be taken forward to a flight design for the NASA X-38 vehicle 201 pyrotechnic laser firing unit. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from Industrial Microphotonics Company in St. Charles, MO. An extensive market survey revealed that only Industrial Microphotonics produced a diode laser array meeting the power and physical size requirements which would allow packaging to meet the X-38 interfaces. See attached specifications. In accordance with FAR 6.302.1 and U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), a Justification for Other than Full and Open Competition stating a unique source is being prepared. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Technical questions should be directed to the Technical Monitor for this procurement, Charles W. Dingell, Jr., (281) 244-1286. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on July 5, 2000. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
