Service (SCS) application is general in nature and identifies potential
scientific and technical areas for student contract services. CRREL's
mission is to study the nature and impact of cold on military and civil
works activities and to develop methods to minimize these adverse
effects. Research is conducted (1) to characterize the constraints
placed on Army material and operation in a realistic winter battlefield
environment, develops techniques and equipment to mitigate those
effects, and provides engineering and consultation services, (2) to
characterize the nature and impact of cold effects on the construction,
operation, and maintenance of Army and civil works facilities and
activities, (3) to mitigate the impact of human activity on the
environment in cold regions, and (4) to understand the fundamental
nature and characteristics of snow, ince, frozen ground, and other
materials in cold environments including their interrelationships with
other environmental parameters. Interested candidates must meet the
following eligibility requirements (1) be a U.S. citizen, (2) attend a
qualifying educational institution on a full-time basis, and (3)
maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average on a scale of 4.0.
Qualifying candidates are encouraged to request a copy of the SCS and,
after review, complete the application form. Minority group members
