SHMLReduction.com. E-MAIL: click here to contact the technical point of contact, lundyb@nswccd.navy.mil. This modification corrects the announcement posted in CBDNet on June 22,2000. The Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center(NSWC)-Ship Systems Engineering Station (SSES) seeks participation from private industry in standardizing materials used aboard U.S. Navy Ships for general cleaning applications. Presently, Ships carry a large variety of cleaning supplies necessary for routine maintenance and shipboard sanitation. These products can vary in both cleaning efficiency and the degree of safety and health precautions necessary for their use. NSWC-SSES plans to revise and/or develop Commercial Item Descriptions (CID) for those cleaning applications required aboard ship. The overall goal of this initiative is to improve the safety and health aspects (i.e., reduce requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)), and environmental friendliness of the cleaning products that the Navy uses afloat without compromising the mission. A secondary goal is to eliminate those categories of materials, which are not needed aboard ship. The three main focus areas are (1) Identif' all required categories of general cleaning compounds (2) Eliminate superfluous categories by setting standards for and authorizing only these required categories and (3) Evaluate currently available products to establish Safety, Environmental and Performance standards on which to base CIDs. NSWC-SSES will issue future announcements to solicit product information (e.g., cleaning efficiency, Material Safety Data Sheets, etc.) from industry on specific categories. That is not the purpose of this request. Also, it is not the purpose of this effort to solicit comment from Industry on dispensing systems or delivery systems for their products. Standardization of dispensing Systems will be addressed at a later date. Please contact Bruce Lundy for specific questions via phone at (215) 897-7640 or via email at lundyb@nswccd.navy.mil. Additional information on this effort is available at the following URL:http://www. SHMLReduction.com. Thewebsite includes a chart which lists cleaning categories that will be evaluated.
