This combination synopsis/solicitation is being amended to provide the answers to clarification questions asked by one of the prospective offerors. The closing date is extended to July 5, 2000 to allow all interested parties to review the questions/answers. Question : For tool kitting the capability for identifying hierarchical relationships of tools, kits and two additional echelons higher. Explain. Answer : For example: A wrench identified in the tool crib is used in a tool kit. This tool kit is used in multiple construction facilities (first echelon), and each construction facility is used in the battalion component (second echelon). The system must be capable of identifying these echelons. Question: Parent/Children relationship(s) between tools within hierarchical levels. Explain. Answer: For example: A tool kit contains more than one item. The system must be capable of identifying all the items (children) back to the tool kit (parent), as well as parent to children. Question: Capable of tracking tools located on various sites in a geographically diverse area. Explain. Answer: For example: There are four separate construction sites, each requiring different tools/tool kits for the tasks to be performed. The system must be capable of tracking which tools are located at which site. Question: Capable of operating on a laptop computer to allow for remote operations. For the remote operations reference, will the laptops be connected to a LAN or WAN and simply be away from the central tool crib, or will they be completely isolated locations?
