Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) through the Program
Support Center, General Acquisitions Branch, intends to award a sole
source, Simplified Acquisition to the Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs
(OEMA) of the American Psychological Association. The Contractor will
convene a Summer Institute to expose students of color to mental health
careers related to violence prevention and make available the model for
training regional faculty to conduct the activities of the Institute on
a local level. The four day Institute shall take place during August
2000 in the Washington, D.C. Metro area. It shall provide its student
participants with opportunities to build leadership skills, forge
mentoring relationships with psychologists and graduate students of
color, and more fully explore the vast array of career opportunities in
psychology, particularly as it relates to violence prevention.
Technical and logistical assistance to regional state colleges and
universites will be provided. A "How To" manual for training community
college faculty to replicate the Institute model shall be refined. The
anticipated award date is July 17, 2000. No solicitation is available.
