69 -- CONTINUATION OF CONVERSION OF VEHICLES TO MEET OPPOSING-FORCES TRAINING MISSION Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with United Defense Limited Partnership (UDLP), Ground Systems Division, San Jose, CA to continue the conversion of M113 Armored Personnel Carriers (APC) to meet the requirements of the Opposing-Forces Training Mission. This contract will take advantage of the existing partnership between United Defense LP and Anniston Army Depot to provide engineering, manufacturing, logistics and support services. The conversion process includes upgrading chassis to the latest M113 Family of Vehicles configuration while further integrating a turret and visual modifications, resulting in a vehicle that provides key recognition signatures of the simulated threat. The contract will have a basic period and four options periods for a total of approximately 200 vehicle conversions. Anticipated award date is first quarter FY01. UDLP is the only source that possesses the M113, M2/M3, and M113/BMP-2 specific knowledge and capabilities necessary to support the unique technical and schedule requirements of the effort.
