NASA/GSFC intends to purchase an Olympus STM5 from Opelco in Dulles, Va. on a sole-source basis. This Measuring Microscope is the only system that is compatible with current GSFC measurement capabilities, tooling and fixture designs. This microscope has relatively long working depth, precision stage (0.lum resolution), computer interface, and translation stage design accomodates existing sensor designs and test hardware. This system must be compatible with existing process and procedures for use of system this for inspection, documentation, and assembly of precision astrophysical sensors developed for NASA/MAP project. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on 7/18/00. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
