COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 3,2000 PSA#2634U.S. Army Research Office, AMSSB-ACR, P.O.Box 12211, Research Triangle
Park, NC 27709-2211 A -- U.S. ARMY RESEARCH OFFICE BROAD AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR
EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL DEVELOPMENT OF QUANTUM COMPUTERS SOL
DAAD19-00-R-0007 DUE 121500 POC Dr. Henry O. Everitt, 919-549-4369/BAA
Administration Voice Mail 919-549-4375 The U.S. Army Research Office
(ARO), together with the Advanced Research and Development Activity
(ARDA), and the National Security Agency (NSA), announces the
availability of Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) No. DAAD19-00-R-0007
for Experimental and Theoretical Development of Quantum Computers dated
July 2000. The BAA solicits research proposals for both experimental
studies of potential physical embodiments of quantum logic, and for
more basic (usually, but not necessarily, theoretical) studies in the
related fields of quantum error correction and control, quantum
computational complexity and algorithms, and quantum decoherence and
entanglement. The experimental implementation studies must develop
proof-of-concept demonstrations. Proposals for theoretical and other
basic studies should be smaller in scope, but like the larger
experimental qubit implementation proposals, should make very clear how
the proposed work will enhance understanding of quantum computation
and, therefore, facilitate the eventual development of practical
quantum computers. The BAA solicitation will contain additional
information along with instructions for white paper and proposal
preparation and submission. Electronic submission of white papers and
proposals is required. White papers must be transmitted to ARO by
September 15, 2000. Proposals must be transmitted to ARO by December
15, 2000. This BAA may be found on ARO's website at
http://www.aro.army.mil on or about 1 July 2000. Posted 06/28/00
