The Defense Threat Reduction Agency is contemplating award on a sole source basis to Berkeley Research Associates for the Flywheel Debris Mitigation System. The award will be made on a sole-source basis to Berkeley because they exclusively developed the current system and possess the knowledge required to implement and demonstrate system capability enhancements. The proposed effort will encompass, but not be limited to the following tasks: 1) Implementation of system modifications and additions for improved debris mitigation capability, improved operability to obtain easier and faster installation, improved reliability by determining mean time between failures and critical components; 2) determination of system scaling to larger simulators; and 3) integration of the counter rotating flywheel system for improved Be-Window survivability.
