The proposed action is for the sole source acquisition of Glenayre Western Multiplex LYNX brand Spread Spectrum Microwave Radios and Glenayre Lynx Protection Switches to provide monitored Hot Back-up capability to the microwave links used in the Coast Guard's Bay Area Communication System. The Hot Back-up capability will provide a continuation of Microwave data transmission even if one of the set of radios in the link fails. Protection Switches will automatically, unattended, switch the circuit to the second back up radio if the primary radio has a failure. This proposed purchase is for: (1) 12 each 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum radios, Lynx model 31250, (2) 6 each 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum radios, Lynx model 31650; (3) 4 each -- 5.8 GHz Spread Spectrum Radios, Lynx model 31600; (4) 22 each: Protection Switches with AC adapter, model 31455-1; (5) upgrading to existing radio fault monitoring software to provide interface to the new radios and switches; and (6) the installation of the new radios,switches and software. The Protection switches and added radios are an integrated system that enables the same interfaces, signals and feedback information to be passed on in the event of a radio's failure. New equipment must be able to communicate with existing LYNX spread spectrum Microwave equipment, duplicating same sequence pattern, modulation technique and frequencies.
