Uyen H. Phuong (301) 496-6127 E-MAIL: karen_riggs@nlm.nih.gov,
uyen_phuong@nlm.nih.gov. It is the intent of the National Library of
Medicine (NLM) to procure professional cataloging services for unique
archival materials from Costabile Associates, Inc., 4800 Montgomery
Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. Costabile Associates will provide cataloging
services for importing and enhancing approximately 400 manuscript
catalog records into the local Integrated Library System (ILS), and
enhance approximately 1,150 existing manuscript catalog records.
Costabile Associates will proceed at several levels simultaneously with
the following: 1. analyze each of approximately 400 converted Machine
Readable Cataloging (MARC) accession records and reconcile information
from accession and collection management files for names, dates,
titles, subject, geographical, and genre information; 2. enter
corrected and reconciled descriptive information for manuscript
collections (except manuscript volumes) into appropriate MARC fields
using Voyager templates, MARC field style sheets, and Medical Subject
Headings (MeSH); 3. analyze and correct each of the approximately 1,150
imported Catline (NLM's previous online book and manuscripts catalog,
now superseded) and Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN)
catalog records. This process will be performed in accordance with the
established manuscript and rare book cataloging standards. Costabile
Associates is considered to be the only source known to be able to
complete the required services based on its expert rare book and

performance for NLM in handing electronic access to manuscripts
collections, especially those needing upgrades to national cataloging
standards. Costabile Associates has been successful in facilitating
NLM's retrieval and collation of manuscripts material. This vendor will
assist NLM in its final step in creating a standardized, integrated
catalog of manuscript holdings, uniting information from across

service and outreach. The proposed acquisition will be procured under
FAR Part 13 -- Simplified Acquisitions. This notice of intent is not a
Request for Quotations (RFQ), nor is an RFQ available, however, all
