COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 7,2000 PSA#2637

NASA SPACE TECHNOLOGY PROVIDER WORKSHOP ON AUGUST 23-24 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Office of Space Science is sponsoring a workshop to seek technology providers and partners from all U.S. industry, government agencies, federally funded research and development centers, and universities for the development of two series of spaceflight technology validation activities for: (1) a Space Environment Testbed (SET) as part of the Living With A Star (LWS) Program; and (2) the New Millennium Program (NMP). The SET focuses on understanding methods available to accommodate and mitigate the influence of the Sun and its associated variance, cycles and particles on technology for the space and Earth environments. The NMP focuses on developing and flight validating high payoff, advanced technologies to retire the risk of use in future science missions. This workshop will take place on August 23 and 24, 2000 at the Marriott Key Bridge Hotel, Arlington, VA. REGISTRATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS information can be found on the NMP web site http://nmp.jpl.nasa.gov Individuals and/or corporations planning to attend are requested to pre-register by completing the electronic registration form provided under the NMP web site. For planning purposes, the REGISTRATION DEADLINE is August 15, 2000. Workshop products are intended to refine LWS SET and NMP technology space test and validation requirements and to identify potential flight technology providers and partnering opportunities. A draft Agenda and specific information describing the preliminary NMP technology validation requirements and LWS SET space test requirements will be posted on the NMP web site on or about August 1, 2000. Refinements in the technology requirements resulting from this workshop will form the basis of future solicitations for technology flight validation opportunities in the LWS SET and NMP. The LWS SET opportunities are planned on two-year intervals and the NMP opportunities are expected to be more frequent. Specifically, the next solicitation for NMP is anticipated in the September/October 2000 time frame and that for LWS SET is anticipated before the end of 2000. In this workshop, we will also conduct discussions on potential technology partnership opportunities for LWS SET and NMP. Two categories of partners are sought: (a) technology experiment partners and (b) joint validation program partners. Technology experiment partners will be responsible for portions or all of the costs associated with their specific technology experiments. Joint validation program partners will take a larger role in the funding and decision-making processes of the overall technology experiments to be conducted in the joint programs. Potential technology providers and partners attending the workshop are requested to provide the following information at the workshop: (a) a description of how their technologies can address the preliminary technology requirements; (b) an assessment of the readiness for flight of their technology in the 2003-2005 time frame; (c) a description of the scenario for flight test/validation experiments including platform resource requirements; (d) an estimate of the cost for providing the technology for the flight; and (e) identification of approaches for partnering in support of the technology test/validation. A two-page form requesting this information will be located at the NMP web site at the time when preliminary requirements are posted. Questions concerning the workshop should be directed to David Spencer at the New Millennium Program Office, (818) 354-4892 or via e-mail: David.T.Spencer@jpl.nasa.gov WEB: What's New, http://nmp.jpl.nasa.gov.
