which operates Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to
the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits Letters of Interest from
companies interested in entering into a Cooperative Research and
Development Agreement (CRADA) to develop and commercialize an
ultrasensitive biosensor for the early detection of the presence of the
influenza virus ("Technology"). The Technology is based on the
detection of viral envelope proteins and is independent of virus type
or subtype. The Technology is embodied in a provisional patent
application filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on 28
October 1999. Interested companies must respond with a Letter of
Interest that provides a brief description of the company's (1)
business and business goals; (2) managing officers and board of
directors; (3) technical staff and resources; (4) financial resources;
(5) manufacturing and marketing capabilities; and (6) motivation for
pursuing this opportunity. Respondents are encouraged to provide
ancillary documentation such as annual reports, corporate resumes, and
technical publications. The Letter of Interest must provide this
information or the respondent will not be considered as a qualified
respondent. The University will execute Nondisclosure Agreements with
qualified respondents that will permit the exchange of information
required to fully evaluate this opportunity. The Letter of Interest
must be received on or before August 7, 2000. Please send Letters of
