The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is anticipating to award several cooperative agreements to recipients that have on-going programs-of-study involving the nonlinear finite element code, DYNA3D, used for dynamic structural analysis. Recipients that are knowledgeable and fluent in the use and application of the finite element code, LS-DYNA, are of interest to the FHWA This assistance program involves the establishment of new or the re-authorization of existing CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE IN DYNA3D ANALYSIS throughout the Nation. Each recipient selected must establish a center of research that is to be named the _CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN DYNA3D ANALYSIS._ An alternate naming that is acceptable is the _CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS._ These _CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE_ must have supercomputing facilities capable of running and analyzing complex, very detailed LS-DYNA models within reasonable time frames. This includes both complex roadside structure models running in conjunction with complex vehicle models. For purposes of this cooperative agreement, the term supercomputing facilities includes both _parallel processor_ computers and/or _vector_ supercomputers.
