Management requires the continuation of a long-term regional
silviculture management cooperative project in the Pacific Northwest,
which has been conducted since 1969 by the University of Washington.
The projected five-year plan maintains the overall objective of
providing a source of high-quality data on the growth, yield and wood
quality of intensively-managed Douglas-fir and western hemlock tree
plantations. The proposed activities are: collection of data and their
analysis of existing region-wide plot installations; supplemental plot
installations on multiple-species conditions, crown studies, and
estimating growth and yield on other than pure Douglas-fir;
collaborative studies on wood quality, nutrition analysis, and disease
structural effects (Swiss needlecast). This is not a formal
solicitation. However, concerns who respond should furnish detailed
data concerning their capabilities and may request a copy of the
solicitation when it becomes available. This notice may representthe
