The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) intends to award on a sole source basis, a purchase order to Radiometer Physics of Mechenheim, Germany for a follow-on procurement of three (3) Frequency Multipliers with an input of 85 to 116GHz, 10mW min and an output of 255-348GHz, 50uW min. The application of these units is a local oscillator source for SAO's SMA 300GHz receivers. These units are designed into the SMA receivers. These frequency multipliers are currently used on the SAO SMA Receiver telescope and are designed to accept both manual micrometer and motor drives. The purchase of these 3 units will accommodate the 4th, 5th and 6th receiver telescopes of the SMA facilities. To insure compatibility and interchangeability with existing hardware, we are procuring this hardware from this vendor. A determination by SAO not to compete this proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of SAO. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. This acquisition is being conducted under the guidelines as set forth in the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). No written solicitation will be issued for this requirement.
