816-426-7530 The U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA, intends to contract
with The University of North Carolina at Wilmington for services to
evaluate genetic diversity, phylogency and reproductive biology of
Halophila Johnsonii (endangered seagrass) growing in Southeastern
Florida between Sebastian Inlet and Biscayne Bay. The services are
being purchased for the National Ocean Service, Center for Coastal
Fisheries and Habitat Research (CCFHR). Information provided by these
studies will be used to assess the status of the species and to meet
the objectives of the Halophila Johnsonni recovery plan. Laboratory and
field expertise is required to conduct specific studies on genetic
diversity, phylogenetic status, cultivation, and reproductive biology
of Halophila Johnsonii. These studies require seawater-supplied
greenhouse, mesocosm and microcosm facilities capable of operating
under controlled environmental conditions and cultivating seagrasses
for short and long-term manipulative experiments. Period of performance
will be upon issuance of the contract thru completion by December 31,
2001. The intended procurement is for services for which the Government
intends to acquire from one source under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253
(c)(1). The Government knows of only one qualified source authorized to
provide the items referenced. This is not a request for proposals.
Information received as a result of this announcement will normally be
considered solely for the purpose of conducting a competitive
procurement. Interested parties shall submit in writing; their name,

provided this type of services for. Interested parties shall also
