Y -- PREQUALIFICATION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NEW POSTAL FACILITIES WITHIN THE MID-ATLANTIC AREA DUE 081500 POC Sharon Weber, Facilities Contract Specialist, 336/665-2801 E-MAIL: sweber1@email.usps.gov, sweber1@email.usps.gov. The U. S. Postal Service, Mid-Atlantic Facilities Service Office, is soliciting qualification statements from contractors desiring to be placed on a prequalified contractor list for the construction of new postal facilities on USPS-owned sites within the States of Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and/or West Virginia. Contractors will be requested to indicate the states in which they would like to be prequalified and must have a valid contractor's license to operate in that state. Projects will range in size from 8,000 SF to 35,000 SF, with estimated construction costs of $1.0M to $5M. Construction will typically consist of steel structural systems with a single-ply roofing membrane. Contractors will be evaluated on the following criteria: (1) five years experience as a prime general contractor; (2) successful completion of projects similar in size and scope; (3) owner references; and (4) other criteria listed in the prequalification statement, including (a) financial stability and bonding capacity, (b) project management capabilities, (c) company organization, (d) previous experience in postal construction, (e) MBE participation and commitment, (f) safety program, and (g) quality control. Interested contractors must obtain a prequalification statement, which will be available at no charge on July 14, 2000. This statement may be obtained upon written request to: Mid-Atlantic FSO, ATTN: Sharon Weber, P. O. Box 27497, Greensboro NC 27498-1103, or by FAX request to 336/665-2865. Submittals must be on the approved USPS form and in the format specified in the prequalification statement. Completed prequalification statements must be received no later than close of business August 15, 2000. Prequalification statements will be evaluated by a committee of postal professionals, and all contractors will be advised within 60 days of receipt of their statement as to prequalification status. Contractors selected as most highly qualified will be placed on a prequalification list for a period of two years. As projects are identified and approved for implementation, the prequalified contractors will receive a Request for Proposal for specific projects. Submittals will not be returned.
