This is modification 1 to the Special Notice entitled SPACEFLIGHT
LAPTOP COMPUTERS, 9-BJ2-57-0-14SN, which was posted on April 7, 2000.
The Spaceflight Laptop Computer Request for Information (RFI) that was
posted in December 1999, with a response date of February 1,2000,
indicated a Request for Proposal (RFP) release date of April 2000. On
April 7, 2000, Special Notice, Solicitation Number 9-BJ2-57-0-14SN, was
posted indicating a slip of the RFP release date to June 2000, with an
anticipated acquisition date of October 2000. Due to a change in the
requirements and need date, the date for release of the RFP has slipped
until February 2001, and the number of laptops to be acquired is
reduced to approximately 1000, all to be procured in a single buy.
Although the RFP will not be released until February of next year,
Johnson Space Center (JSC) is asking for all interested parties to
provide a loaner laptop to NASA/JSC for approximately one month. During
the loan time, the laptop will be disassembled and its components will
be evaluated. Upon completion of the evaluation, feedback of the
results will be furnished to each company relative to the unit they
provided. While the evaluators will endeavor to reassemble each laptop
in working order, there is potential risk that the laptop will not be
returned in working condition. NASA JSC will assume no liability
whatsoever for a damaged or destroyed laptop. Before any evaluation of
its laptop, each offeror will be required to sign a statement
releasing the Government from all liability for the condition of the
returned laptop. The NASA JSC evaluation of laptops will begin July 10,
2000, and continue through December 1, 2000. To ensure orderly
evaluation of laptops, vendors must schedule delivery of their laptop
with the NASA Procurement Office, Procurement Analyst, Venessa
Jankowski at 281-483-4162, prior to submission of a laptop. Failure to
submit a loaner laptop will not restrict any vendor from submitting a
proposal in response to the RFP nor will it take the vendor out of
consideration for the contract award. A draft Statement of Work
(SOW)(Document name: laptop622A.doc) is located at URL,
http://ec.msfc.nasa.gov/jsc/documents/RFIBJ2PP1I/ and identifies NASA's
current specifications for the spaceflight laptops. For those companies
desiring to provide a laptop for evaluation, please ensure it meets
these technical requirements. Should there be any question as to
whether a laptop meets the NASA specification or if you have concerns
that the specification may be too restrictive, contact the Procurement
Analyst or Contracting Officer in writing to discuss the situation
further. Documents related to this procurement are available over the
Internet and are in Microsoft Office Suite (Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, or
PowerPoint 4.0) format or Portable Document Format (PDF) and will
reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server at URL,
http://nais.msfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/EPS/bizops.cgi?gr=CL&pin=73 Offerors
are responsible for monitoring this site for the release of the
solicitation andany amendments. Potential offerors are responsible for
downloading their own copy of the solicitation and amendments (if
any). Posted 07/10/00 (D-SN472940). (0192) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0025 20000712\D-0005.SOL)
