SOLICITATION FOR PROPOSALS AND NO CONTRACT WILL BE AWARDED FROM THIS
NOTICE. THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT REIMBURSE CONTRACTORS FOR ANY COSTS
ASSOCIATED WITH PROVIDING INFORMATION IN RESPONSE TO THIS ANNOUNCEMENT
OR THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH REQUIRED FOLLOW-UP INFORMATION. IN ORDER TO
PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF ANY FUTURE PROCUREMENT THAT MAY ARISE FROM
THIS MARKET SURVEY, INFORMATION REGARDING THE TECHNICAL POINT OF
CONTACT WILL NOT BE GIVEN AT THIS TIME. THERE WILL BE NO APPOINTMENTS
FOR PRESENTATIONS. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (hereafter abbreviated as
NNSY) is requesting information, associated costs, and delivery
projection for the provision of two (2) marine camels described to
follow: Each camel will be 70 ft wide x 120 ft long consisting of a
steel frame supported by flotation tanks with rubber fenders attached
directly to the steel frame. The top of the camel shall be wood
decking. Each camel shall be designed to meet NAVFAC criteria as
described herein, assuming the ship will be cold-iron and impossible to
get under way should a hurricane approach the area: Wind load -- design
for hurricane force winds at camel yield, i.e., 75 mph and at camel
failure, i.e. 95 mph; Current load the velocity equals 0.74 knots at
camel yield and 1.1 knots at camel failure; Berthing velocity assume an
approach velocity in a sheltered environment of 0.17 FPS. ALL
INTERESTED PARTIES MAY PARTICIPATE IN A SITE VISIT AND INFORMATIONAL
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AT NNSY AT WHICH TIME EXISTING GOVERNMENT
CONSTRUCTED CAMELS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW. CONFERENCE
DATE/LOCATION: NNSY, BLDG 1500, 2ND FLOOR, CODE 530 CONFERENCE RM, 1:00
PM, 01 AUG 2000. QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED RELATIVE TO THIS
ANNOUNCEMENT AT THAT TIME. ALL PROSPECTIVE CONTRACTORS ARE URGED TO
ATTEND THIS CONFERENCE. YOU ARE HEREBY ADVISED THAT THIS CONFERENCE
WILL BE HELD SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXPLAINING THE GOVERNMENT'S
REQUIREMENT. AT THE CONCLUSION, ALL QUESTIONS WILLBE COMPILED AND A
WRITTEN RESPONSE WILL BE PROVIDED. IMPORTANT: ALL ATTENDEES MUST
PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION VIA FAX TO NNSY, CODE 532.1G, KAREN
