elena.deleon@fhwa.dot.gov. The Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP)
program of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is seeking
expressions of interest from vendors who can provide inertial profiling
equipment for collecting pavement longitudinal profile data. The
collected profile data shall be of research quality, and compatible
with the historical LTPP database. The profiling device shall be
equipped with a minimum of three sensors, two of which shall collect
data along the two wheel paths, and the third sensor shall collect data
along the mid-lane. The profiler shall be equipped with an accurate
distance measuring system to keep track of longitudinal positioning. In
addition, the profiler shall satisfy the following requirements: (1)
ability to collect and record profile data at intervals of 25 mm, (2)
minimum and maximum wavelengths to be included in the profile data
shall be user selectable, with lower and upper limits of 0.05 m and 150
m, respectively, (3) ability to collect profile data at speeds ranging
between 40 and 88 km/hr, (4) capability of obtaining accurate IRI
values on pavements whose IRI range between 0.5 and 5.0 m/km, (5)
ability to operate under ambient air temperatures ranging from _18 to
49 _C, and relative humidity ranging from 0 to 100 percent, (6) ability
to withstand storage at air temperatures between _29 and 66 _C, (7)
capability of automatically initiating data collection using photocells
that can trigger off a mark on the pavement, or from a cone placed
along the shoulder. The profiler shall be capable of collecting
accurate profile data on pavement surfaces including, asphalt concrete,
portland cement concrete and surface treatments. Also, the profiler
operation shall not be influenced by pavement color, texture and
ambient light. Response from interested vendors shall include a full
description of their profiling equipment and their capabilities. The
response shall also include references to State and Local agencies that
are using the vendors profiling equipment or have contracted with the
vendor for collecting profile data. These sources are sought for
planning purposes only. This may not result in an award. Please reply
to Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Office
of Acquisition Planning, 400 Seventh St., S.E., Room 4410, Washington,
DC 20590, Attn: Elena de Leon, HAAM-20C. Responses are due no later
than 4:15pm, July 28, 2000. Posted 07/11/00 (D-SN473483). (0193) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0323 20000713\66-0013.SOL)
