99 -- MISCELLANEOUS -- WILD HORSE FEEDING SOL JSQ000034 DUE 081800 POC Jean Olson, Contracting Officer,(801) 539-4179, Fax: (801) 539-4222 DESCRIPTION: Feed and water wild horses and burros awaiting preparation and disposition through the adoption program. On occasion, numbers of wild horses corralled may be as high as 800 and as low as 50. Horses are expected to be held at the center on a year long basis. The facility consists of 11 small pens and 4 large paddocks. The small pens are used to hold between 30 and 50 animals. The large paddocks will be used to hold 100 to 150 animals. Hay will need to be spread throughout the pens to assure that all animals receive adequate amounts of feed. It is anticipated that the feeding services for the wild horses may require 2 contract personnel on a daily basis when the number of animals increase. The facility does not have an automated feeding system. One Contractor's employees shall drive the BLM furnished tractor and the other shall break and spread the bales of hay. The Contractor must be experienced and skilled in working with livestock, and knowledgeable of the behavior and characteristics of wild horses for both the safety of the animals and the contractor, as there is a possibility of serious injury if not handled properly. The contractor will feed each animal twice daily; once before 9:00 a.m. and once after 3: p.m. Each wild horse will receive approximately (14) pounds of Government-furnished hay per feeding. Water troughs will be checked at each feeding. Water troughs will be drained and cleaned at least once a week. For further information, please contact Jean Olson.
