The US Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Center for Contracting and Commerce, on behalf of PM-Small Arms is soliciting for the development of a 5.56mm lead free, short range ammunition for training wiht the M16/M249 family of weapons which will provide realistic training alternatives while eliminating the toxic effects of lead cored 5.56mm service ammunition. The primary objective is to develop a 5.56mm training cartridge with lead-free components (primer and preojectile), with a maximum range of 250 meters (10% of the maximum range of the M855); that has a trajectory match and round to round dispersion comparable to the service ammunition to 25 meters, and provide full functional capability when fired in the M16/M249 family of weapons within a temperature range of -44 degrees F to +104 degrees F without any ancillary equipment or weapon modifications.
