COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 14,2000 PSA#2642

70 -- FIDNET, FEDERAL INTRUSION DETECTION NETWORK, INTRUSION DETECTION, MANAGED SECURITY SERVICES, MANAGED SERVICES, SECURITY SERVICES, MANAGED SECURITY The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), Federal Technology Service, Office of Information Security (OIS) (hereafter GSA), recently sought comments on a Draft Request For Proposals (RFP). See CBD Notice, GSA-TIM-2000-051, closed June 23, 2000. This Draft RFP was tentatively intended to identify to industry the need for GSA to acquire the resources to develop, implement, and operate a Federal Intrusion Detection Network (FIDNet). The draft defined hardware, software, and supporting services and facilities necessary for GSA to receive, monitor, and analyze intrusion alerts from participating Federal agencies_ intrusion detection systems. This notice provides the current status of where GSA stands regarding its Draft RFP. The responses received from industry and other US Government agencies, in the form of questions and comments were all reviewed by our FIDNet technical experts. That information is too far-reaching to summarize here, but has had a major impact on how the government now feels FIDNetshould be implemented. The next step is a substantive rewrite of the RFP, but more along the lines of a traditional services-oriented buy of managed security services (MSS), not government-unique development requiring in-house operations, with some components or aspects necessarily being Government-only oriented. It is anticipated the next RFP iteration will be available in early FY 2001. All questions and comments regarding this announcement regarding the Draft RFP status should be submitted as Word document file attachments to the attention of Mr. Jon Faye, Contracting Officer. GSA thanks the respondents to the RFP for their interest in the WEB: Visit this URL for the latest information about this, http://www.eps.gov/cgi-bin/WebObjects/EPS?ACode=S&ProjID=GSA-TIM-2000-051-1&LocID=246.
