COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 14,2000 PSA#2642 S -- - NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT WITH SAN
JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION. Notice of intent to negotiate a sole
source contract with the San Jose State University Foundation (SJSUF)
for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Purpose of contract
is to assess the impacts of Pacific Harbor seals on depressed
salmonids on the San Lorenzo River and the Scott River, Santa Cruz
County, California. Dr. Harvey of the SJSUF has conducted similar
pinniped-impact studies on the San Lorenzo River. Dr. Harvey and his
research assistants investigated foraging ecology of the California sea
lions and harbor seals on the San Lorenzo River, including observations
of steelhead predation events, harbor seal and California sea lion scat
collection and prey identification, and counted harbor seals and
California sea lions at nearby haulouts during winter-run steelhead
spawning migration. Results were published in a report entitled
"Impacts of California Sea Lions and Pacific Harbor Seals on Salmonids
in Monterey Bay, California." Tasks under proposed contract expand
upon Dr. Harvey's 1997, 1998, and 1999 studies. This notice may
represent the only notice. Questions concerning this acquisition may be
directed to Randall Brown at 206-526-6226 or fax 206-526-6025. Posted
