plans to issue a draft RFP for LASP support via the internet, on or
about 15 days after publication of this notice in the Commerce Business
Daily. This requirement encompasses support of solar and space plasma
physics, astrophysics, and astronomy. This support is primarily in the
areas of computer systems and related services, including operating
systems, security, and applications software; development and use of
scientific and engineering data analysis systems; and, engineering
efforts that develop new technology for astrophysical instrumentation.
This document is for information and planning purposes and to allow
industry the opportunity to verify reasonableness and feasibility of
the requirement, as well as promote competition. Prospective offerors
are invited to sumbit comments or questions to: Ms. Mary V. Stevens,
Code 216. A response time and method for submitting comments or
questions will be published concurrent with release of the draft RFP.
This solicitation/synopsis is not to be construed as a commitment by
the Government, nor will the Government pay for the information
solicited. This draft request for proposal is not a solicitation and
NASA is not requesting proposals. Any questions regarding this
announcement should be directed to the identified point of contact. An
ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B". The
solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be
available over the Internet. These documents will be in Microsoft
Office Suite (Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, or PowerPoint 4.0) format and will
reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a
