See Note 22 -- The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command has a requirement for the overhaul of 581 Logistics Vehicle Systems (LVSs) and 210 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTTs). The HEMTT requirement also contains a 50% option for up to a quantity of 315 each. The Logistics Vehicle System (LVS) series trucks are designed for on and off road use by the United States Marine Corps. The vehicles can be configured to perform a variety of missions from the movement of supplies to the recovery of disabled vehicles to the transport of bridge sections. The vehicle series consists of a front power unit (MK48) and any one of four trailers (MK14, MK15, MK16 and MK17), listed below. When coupled, the complete unit becomes an articulated, 8x8 vehicle. The vehicle is designed to operate on and off road in temperatures between -25 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, ford water up to 60 inches and climb or descend slopes up to 60 degrees. The Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) providestransport capabilities for re-supply of combat vehicles and weapons systems. There are five basic configurations of the HEMTT series trucks: M977 cargo truck with Material Handling Crane (MHC), M978 2500 gallon fuel tanker, M984 wrecker, M983 tractor and M985 cargo truck with MHC. A self-recovery winch is also available on certain models. This vehicle family is rapidly deployable and is designed to operate in any climatic condition where military operations are expected to occur. Overhaul of HEMTT and LVS vehicles, originally manufactured by Oshkosh Truck Corporation, involves the disassembly of components from the vehicle frame, inspection of components for cracks and wear, replacement of key components as required, and reassembly and repainting of the vehicle. All gaskets, seals, fasteners, hoses, wiring and harnesses are replaced. Overhauled vehicles are required to be in the same configuration as HEMTT vehicles being produced by the manufacturer at the time of overhaul and the last production vehicle of the LVS, which is no longer in production. All overhauled vehicles must carry the same standard warranty currently provided by the vehicle manufacturer for new production. Posted 07/18/00 (W-SN476054). (0200)
