A -- FABRICATION OF NEW PROTOTYPE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM SOL SOL #512-20-00 DUE 080100 POC Jacquelyn M. Walker, 410-642-1104 NOTICE OF INTENT: The VA Maryland Healthcare System intends to conduct negotiations on a sole source basis with Fitsense Technology, 212 Worchester Street, Wellesley, MA 02481, for the fabrication of a new Prototype Global Positioning System (GPS) for use within the home of VA patients participating in a VA funded research project entitled "Portable Monitoring of Physical Activity and Depression in Stroke". This device shall monitor stroke patients' accuracy for measuring intensity and duration of ambulatory activity. Monitoring shall include, but not limited to, Energy Expenditure Monitor (EEM), Heart Rate, and Blood Pressure Monitoring Capacity. Also, include estimates of energy expenditure of physical activity using the EEM as an independent recording instrument. Testing of the device shall describe integrated physiological monitoring devises across 48 hour recoding EPOCHS in stroke patients during the sub-acute stroke recovery period following hospital discharge and again three (3) months later. This device shall detect the functional mobility recovery following a stroke, and will be compared to conventional benchmark stroke rehabilitation outcome instruments. When the device is completed and accepted, vendor will supply three (3) GPS units, along with appropriate technical support and customized software for use by the VA. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. Interested parties shall submit information identifying clear and convincing documentation including pricing for a like or similar product. A determination by the Government not to compete this acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. There is no solicitation document available. This procurement will be conducted using simplified Acquisition Procedures. Applicable SIC Code is 3829. The estimated cost is between $25,000 and $50,000.
