E-MAIL: victoria_lewis@nrel.gov, victoria_lewis@nrel.gov. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory anticipates issuing a solicitation for Letters of Interest (LOIs) for research and development efforts from members of the photovoltaic (PV) and related industries to resolve manufacturing problems relevant to PV product development. The anticipated effort is a continuation of the PV Manufacturing R&D Project which can further accelerate the achievements of PV Manufacturing Technology for reducing PV manufacturing costs, improving PV product performance and reliability, and providing a foundation for private expansion of U.S. commercial PV production capacities. It is designed to be impartial to the various PV technologies and manufacturing approaches. The activities in photovoltaic technologies are being conducted for the DOE by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Golden, Colorado). Proposals received in response to the anticipated LOI will be accepted only if submitted by U.S. industrial organizations and/or U.S. teams with activities directly related to the manufacturing of PV products and systems. The proposed work areas may include, but will not be limited to, issues such as improvement of module manufacturing processes; system and system component packaging, system integration, manufacturing and assembly; product manufacturing flexibility; and balance-of-system development including storage and quality control. The emphasis is on new and improved in-line diagnostics and monitoring with real-time feedback for optimal process control and increased yield in the fabrication of PV modules, systems and other system components. Subject to the availability of funds, multiple Firm-Fixed Price awards are anticipated. Organizations requesting a copy of the solicitation setting forth the LOI requirements may access and download it on the internet at http://www.nrel.gov/contracts/ effective after August 7, 2000. This is not a request for proposals. Telephone requests will not be accepted. Posted 07/19/00 (W-SN476562). (0201)
