Z -- LEVELING AND MASONRY WORK ON THE STIETENROTH HOUSE SOL I5570-00-0005 DUE 082500 POC Dale Wilkerson, Contracting Officer, (662) 680-4009 The contractor shall furnish all materials, labor, transportation and equipment necessary to repair foundation piers and chimney foundations on the Stietenroth House, a one-and-a-half story wood frame residence located in Natchez, MS (Adams county). The building is owned by the Natchez National Historical Park, a unit of the National Park Service. The house is built on brick piers with a hallway running from front to back and two rooms on each side of the hallway with fireplaces between the two rooms. The house was built in the 1880's, exhibits a high degree of architectural integrity, and is in fair condition. This contract is the first step in preserving the Stietenroth House. Because of settling of the chimney foundation and settling of the piers, the north side of the house is not level. The house must therefore be supported while the piers are being rebuilt with new concrete footings. The north fireplace will have to be completely dismantled and a new concrete footing will be poured before fireplace and chimney is rebuilt. The scope of work of this project will include the following tasks: 1) remove new brickwork between piers on north and south sides of the house; 2) support house by using house jacks or hydraulic jacks; 3) remove flooring and floor joists inside to gain access to brick piers; 4) remove dividing wall to expose fireplace and chimney and dismantle chimney and fireplace; 5) form and pour new concrete footing for fireplace and rebuild fireplace with joist pockets, aligning with other piers to make level; 6) remove bricks carefully and clean old mortar on bricks with the intention of reusing as many of the original bricks as possible; 7) after piers are built new termite shields must sit atop piers before floor joists are put back; and 8) lower house onto new piers. Contract performance period is 90 days from date notice to proceed is issued. Magnitude of this project is $25,000 to $100,000.
