The Fluorescence Plate Reader should have the ability to: 1) illuminate and detect fluorescence indicators simultaneously in all wells of a 96-well plate, and with a time resolution of less than or equal to 1 second; 2) quantitate fluorescence from currently available fluorescence indicators that measure [Ca++] and other ions, 3) make up to three separate and unique solution additions to the 96-well plate in a user-defined protocol, each addition occurring simultaneously across the 96-well plate during data collection; 4) keep the sample plate under temperature control; and 5) provide the necessary equipment to load and wash a 96-well plate and seed 96-well plates with cells.
