ngviwg@www.gri.org. The Natural Gas Vehicle Industry Infrastructure
Working Group (NGV-IWG) is soliciting proposals entitled "Economical
Odorant for LNG Fuel" to address concerns over the lack of odorant in
current liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicle fuel. For industrial
applications, natural gas is commonly liquefied for purification,
storage, and transport. In such applications, odorization of the
liquefied natural gas (LNG) is not considered necessary; rather,
required disclaimers alert the buyer about the product's nature.
However, odorizing the LNG used to fuel vehicles would significantly
enhance public safety, and therefore, increase product acceptance.
Despite limited research and experimentation, there is no commercial
application of odorized LNG that retains its warning agent properties
in both liquid and vapor states. The NGV-IWG is seeking organizations
to develop the first commercial odorant for LNG. The NGV-IWG is an
industry/government research, development, and demonstration program,
whereby high-priority NGV infrastructure projects are funded jointly by
the U.S. Department of Energy, the Gas Research Institute (GRI), and
other industry and government partners. Please note that all proposals
must be submitted electronically through the NGV-IWG website.
Proposals in response to RFP No. 0000000983 are due to the NGV-IWG
website no later than 5:00 p.m. CDT, 13 September 2000. Posted 07/21/00
