Defense Supply Service -- Washington (DSS-W), in support of Defense Telecommunications Service -- Washington (DTS-W) and under the authority of FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(iii), intends to issue a modification to extend their current contract requesting commercial item acquisition of cellular equipment and airtime for Department of Defense agencies in the National Capital Region. The requirement includes transmission and receipt of voice and data on mobile, portable, and transportable cellular telephones; and electronic service order processing and invoicing using DTS-W specific formats. Bell Atlantic Mobile is the incumbent contractor and capable of continued provision of the services without substantial duplication of cost to the Government not expected to be recovered during the extension and also to provide service without potential disruption resulting from transition to another network. The modification will be for an interim period between expiration of the current contract on 31 August 2000 and award of a follow-on contract action, an anticipated eight-month period. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. The follow-on contract action is being developed and a CBD synopsis is anticipated for publication in August 2000. Sources who responded to the RFI notice in the CBD August 1999 and the subsequent draft SOW, January 2000, will be notified via e-mail when the CBD synopsis is publicized. The follow-on contract action, which will combine wireless telecommunication requirements into one solicitation, has undergone many changes since its initial development.
