COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 25,2000 PSA#2649 INDUSTRY AND ACDEMIA PARTICIPATION IN FORECASTS ON VISUALIZATION AND
ATR/AFE/ADE The National Imagery & Mapping Agency (NIMA) is
solicitating interest from industry and academia in participating in
two upcoming technology forecasts on visualization technologies and
ATR/AFE/ADE (automatic assisted target recognition, feature extraction,
and data extraction). Respondents can participate in one or both of the
forecasts. NIMA will define the technology area, discuss its
needs/vision for three time frames-near(3-5 years), mid (6-10 years),
and long term (10+ years). NIMA will also provide reference material
such as its strategic plan, operational vision through 2010, and
technical architecture documents. Participants will take part in a
web-based Delphi survey where participants answer a series of questions
and provide comments over the Internet on each of the technology
domains. Type of questions addressed include the technology's revance
to NIMA, maturity, ease of adoption, developments and pace,
deficiencies and risks, and recommended investment strategies. Average
length of timeto contribute for each of the two rounds is two to six
hours. Participants will be acknowlwdged in the official publication,
will receive a copy of the document, have access to reference materials
on industry trends and NIMA needs, and be able to see the opinions of
their peers. NIMA will use the findings fromthese studies to determine
investment strategies for each of the technology domains as well as
any organizational or business process areas recommended. Interested
participants should contact NIMA by July 31, 2000. The on-line survey
will begin in mid-August and run through the end of September, 2000.
