Box 25046, Denver Federal Center, Denver, CO 80225-0046 66 -- INTEGRATED LASER AND BEAM DELIVERY SYSTEM SOL 00CRQQ0289 DUE
090700 POC Robert C. Valdez, (303) 236-5900 ext 424 Concerns having the
ability to furnish a integrated laser and beam delivery system to
activate samples for 40 Ar/39 Ar geochronologic analysis as described
herein are requested to give written notification (including the
telephone number for a point of contact) to the procuring office above
within forty-five (45) calendar days from the date of this synopsis.
The following Salient Characteristics are considered essential to this
requirement. The U.S. Geological Survey, Crustal Imaging and
Characterization Team, Central Region, has a requirement for an
integrated laser and beam delivery system to activate samples for 40
Ar/39 Ar geochronologic analysis. Salient Characteristics are as
follows: The following salient characteristics define a laser and beam
delivery system that will be connected to our new state of the art
argon mass spectrometer and will allow ablation of the geologic sample
surface by very small diameter (1 to 200 micrometer) laser beam
without heating of the surface and adversely affecting adjacent areas.
The method will enable us to do laser traverse across mineral samples
to determine age differences within single grains and to analyze very
small minerals without heating adjacent material; this requires a Kr-F
laser that produces low ultraviolet wavelength light that will
adequately couple with geologic samples. The laser shall be a
non-heating laser and include a laser beam delivery system custom-made
to our laboratory conditions. Laser General Description. The laser
shall be a KrF Excimer Laser with 248nm wavelength, 200 Hertz
repetition rate, 10mJ per pulse, 2 W average power at 200 Hz.
Repetition rate and output power shall be variable. Laser shall be
controlled by 0-5V TTL signals supplied by the USGS laboratory. One TTL
signal shall control repetition rate and one TTL signal shall control
high voltage. Integrated Single Beam Delivery and Viewing System
Description: The beam delivery system shall have high-reflectivity
dielectric beam-steering mirrors, UV-transmitting imaging lens
withfocus mounts, 10X focusing objective, 2-inch focal length focusing
lens, an aperture assembly, and an attenuator assembly. There shall be
an integrated coaxial imaging and illumination system and
high-resolution color CCD camera with color monitor. There shall be a
fiber optics iluminator. All shall have mounting hardware and fixtures
and the laser and beam delivery assembly shall be mounted to base
plate. Laser Beam Enclosure Description: There shall be a cover over
the beam delivery optics. Upon exit from final focusing lens the laser
light shall not be covered. PL-1500A KrF Excimer Laser, 200 Hz
repition rate, 10 jm per pulse, 2 W avg. power at 200 Hz, Variable rep
rate & output power, Laser controlled by 0-5V TTL signals supplied by
customer, One TTL signal to control rep rate and one TLL signal to
control high voltage, Integrated single beam delivery and viewing
system with: High-reflectivity dielectric beam steering mirrors,
UV-transmitting imaging lens with focus mounts, 10X focusing objective,
2-inch focal length focusing lens Aperture Assembly, Attenuator
Assembly Intergrated coaxial imaging and illumination system High
resolution color CCD camera with color monitor fiber optic illuminator,
mounting hardware and fixtures laser and beam delivery assembly mounted
to base plate Class IV laser beam enclosure: Cover over beam delivery
optics. Laser light not covered after final focusing lens. Based on
information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C.
253 (1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item
specified as a sole source from Potomac Photonics, Inc., 4445 Nicole
Drive, Lanham, MD 20706 and proposes to negotiate a contract with that
firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified,
they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the
required item or its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria
specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative
response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include
literature, brochures and such other materials which correspond to the
required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and
used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. This notice may
represent the Governments only official notice of this procurement. See
