The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a requirement to replace the roofing system at its National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory located at 2565 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The contractor shall remove approximately 96,000 square feet of existing built-up roofing and install a new roof consisting of tapered insulation and coal tar pitch (type 1) with a 1% slope (1/8" per foot). Fascias, ladders and equipment will be replaced, modified or raised to meet the new roofing system. The contractor will provide new roof sumps and conductor piping. Emergency drainage will be handled over the parapet edge. All structural supports, vents, hose cabinets and stacks will remain. Building areas will be fully protected during removal and installation of the roof system. The anticipated contract performance period is approximately 2 months, but the project will be phased as necessary to coordinate with facility testing operations. The estimated price range is between $1,000,000 and $1,500,000. The Invitation for Bids will be issued on or about August 15, 2000, with bids due approximately 30 calendar days after solicitation issuance. There will be no charge for solicitation documents. Plans and specifications will be available for inspection without charge at NVFEL in Ann Arbor and at the USEPA Contracts Management Division's offices in Norwood, Ohio.
