Navy, on behalf of the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Special
Operations Peculiar Modification (SOPMOD) Program is issuing this
Request For Information (RFI). SOPMOD is presently conducting a market
survey. Sources are sought that can provide Commercial-Off-The-Shelf
(COTS) 5.56mm Sub-Sonic ammunition for use in the M4 series weapons to
meet future operational requirements of USSOCOM Special Operations
combatants. The SOPMOD Program is seeking a COTS solution to fulfill
potential USSOCOM Special Operations requirement for a 5.56mm Sub-Sonic
cartridge. The 5.56mm Sub-Sonic cartridge shall comply with American
National Standard/Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufactures' Institute
(ANSI/SAAMI) chamber pressure requirements for .223 Remington, and or
US Army chamber pressure requirements for 5.56mm cartridge. The 5.56mm
Sub-Sonic cartridge is required to function reliably in the M4A1
Carbine with suppressor (Threshold), and without suppressor (Objective)
between the temperature range of +125 F to 20 F.
Interested vendors are encouraged to plan on making test sample lots
available for purchase (500 rounds minimum). The government may wish to
test various samples with the intent of defining the government's
requirements for a potential future competitive procurement of 5.56
sub-sonic ammunition. Test sample cartridges are required to be
available no later than October 6, 2000. Interested vendors will
provide the cost of the cartridge, and manufacturing capabilities to
Mr. John Pfender at (812) 854-5198, FAX (812) 854-5095, no later than
11 August 2000. The interested vendors will also contact Mr. Chuck
Marsh at (812) 854-4110 no later than 18 August 2000 for the
governments' possible interest in procuring samples. This notice does
not constitute an invitation for Bids or a request for Proposal (RFP)
and it is not a commitment by the SOPMOD Program to procure subject
material. No solicitation document exists at this time. THE GOVERNMENT
DOES NOT INTEND TO AWARD A CONTRACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS REQUEST FOR
INFORMATION OR OTHERWISE PAY FOR THE INFORMATION SOLICITED. Posted
