contracting officer, woode@ars.usda.gov. USDA, ARS, SAA intends to
solicit and negotiate with only one source, Perkin Elmer, to furnish
one Ultra High Sensitivity Imaging System for Bio-and Chemiluminescense
as well as Fluorescence for the USDA, ARS, Athens, GA. This laboratory
is conducting research to understand how Salmonella and Campylobacter
bacteria colonize the chicken intestinal tract. We require a system to
track both fluorescent and luminescent bacteria in-situ, in real time
from very low levels of emitted signal. Characteristics unique to the
Perkin Elmer system are: a single system with the following built-in
capabilities: 1. an instrument that will acquire (i.e. detect and
place) low levels of emitted light from either autoluminescent or
fluorescent sources and create images from these low level emissions of
light from biological and food sample inoculated with bioluminescent
and/or fluorescent organisms. 2. The system must allow acquisition of
the image through a controlled camera capable of dual detection; i.e.
luminescence andfluorescence, by sensitive luminescence detection and
fluorescence excitation and detection in a macro (within a system dark
box) or on a micro scale within the same system allowing the camera to
be removed and placed on an appropriate microscope with correct
adapter. 3. The system must acquire the image through a computer
control software capability which controls the camera/imager as well as
allows image further processing and archiving for further analysis. No
telephone inquiries will be accepted. Interested parties should submit
written responses including prices and technical data sufficient to
determine capability to meet the entire requirement and must be
received in this office within 15 calendar days after publication of
this notice. It should be noted that no contract will be awarded on the
basis of offers received in response to this notice, but will be used
to determine if a comparable source more advantageous to the Government
is available. If no affirmative written responses are received,
negotiations will be held with Perkin Elmer without further notice.
This acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition
Streamlining Act, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The anticipated
award date is August 15,2000. Posted 07/27/00 (W-SN479508). (0209) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0306 20000731\66-0004.SOL)
