and Infectious Diseases intends to procure 50 Saguinus Mystax non-human
primates via a sole source simplified acquisition withe Pan American
Sanitary Bureau, c/o the University of Miami, Division of Veterinary
Research. These non-human primates, the moustached Tamarin, are a
neotropical species, indigenous only to peru, that are available
exclusively through the Pan American Health Organization, Peruvian
Primatology Project, Iquitos,Peru. This New World non-human primate is
available exclusively from this source through a memorandum of
understanding between the University of Miami and NIH. These non-human
primates are the animal model of choice for the study of Hepatitis C
virus characterization and pathogenesis. They are needed to support the
ongoing studies of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID.
