COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 1,2000 PSA#2654 SUSTAINABLE AND ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING MATERIALS AND SYSTEMS The
U.S. Department of Energy intends to award a simplified acquisition on
a sole-source basis to The Center for Sustainable Building Materials
and Envelopes, associated with Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT), Boston, MA, to promote innovative approaches to building
material and building component research, development, demonstration
and deployment (RDD&D) of sustainable and energy efficient construction
technologies that stimulate partnerships with construction industry and
materials technologies. The Center will communicate new DOE and private
sector innovative building envelope and materials technologies to
academia, ASHRAE education committee, AIA education committee, American
Collegiate Schools of Architecture and others. This will require the
development of a suitable course (or courses) along with a set of
course materials. A syllabus for the course might include topics such
as basic thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, intruduction to
computer models such as DOE-2/BLAST/ENERGY PLUS, ENERGY-10, moisture
models being developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and
comtemporary research results such as highly reflective roofing
materials, and sustainable envelope materials. The Center will also
develop a design competition for new energy efficient envelope
technologies for college students including awards for winning designs.
Interested parties are advised that no solicitation is available for
this acquisition. See Note(s): 22. ***** Posted 07/28/00 (W-SN479791). Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0393 20000801\SP-0005.MSC)
