The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center intends to purchase diesel-engine-driven spotter-car vehicles with couplers designed for operation on rails and paved surfaces. The spotter-car, identified as Spotter, shall be the manufacturer s standard commercial product and shall have been marketed and in commercial field use for at least one year prior to the date of bid opening. Product improvements are acceptable. The Spotter shall be equipped with optional equipment as specified in the solicitation. The solicitation is planned to be issued on or about August 18, 2000 with a proposal due September 15, 2000. The contract will be a fixed price contract. The appli cable SIC Code is 3743. The Size Standard is 1,000 employees. Detailed specifications and minimum requirements will be set forth in the solicitation. The acquisition will be conducted using full and open competitive procedures.
