58 -- COMMUNICATION MICROWAVE TERMINAL UPGRADE SOL 00-6450-0424 DUE 081400 POC ann margrave (650)329-4132 E-MAIL: amargrave@usgs.gov, amargrave@usgs.gov. The U.S. Geological Survey, 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, California 94025-3591, has a requirement to purchase, on a sole source basis, from Arcom Electronics, Inc., 1500 McCandles Drive, Milpitas, California 94035-8000, the known source available to upgrade the existing microwave system to NASA Ames. OC3 (155Mpbs) technology will more than double the existing two DS3 links (90Mbps) per second to 1 OC3 link and 1 DS3 link with a combine aggregate speed of 200 Mbps. This support is in anticipation of the arrival of servers in support of the USGS Gateway to Planet Earth project and the move of the Microsoft/USGS Terraserver project to Menlo Park and Reston. Also the possibility that Moffett Field facilities will be used as swing space for the USGS Menlo Park facility during the Buildings 1 and 2 renovations. Arcom built and installed/configured the current equipment, which is on the tower. The existing equipment has functioned virtually error free during its three-year life cycle. Since some of the existing microwave equipment and frequencies will be used for the upgrade, it is very important that knowledgeable engineers perform the work. Delivery date needed by October 2000. Posted 08/03/00 (W-SN481829). (0216)
