The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention contemplates awarding a Sole Source contract to AB Applied Biosystems to provide repair and maintenance for 12 highly specialized Sciex instruments. The anticipated performance period is 12 months. Options may be exercised for an additional four years. The contract will involve both software and hardware support. In some cases, proper support of the software may require access to proprietary source code which is only available through the manufacturer. Because of the specialized and complex nature of these instruments, the service engineers must be fully trained by the manufacturer, to include updates on factory modifications and changes to the system. In addition, factory parts must be available to ensure timely repair. Several custom and proprietary components are available only through the manufacturer. As a result, it is believed that AB Applied Biosystems has a unique capability to perform this work.
