59 -- WATER AND ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE RESISTANT RIBBON CABLE AND CONNECTORS DUE 082100 POC Lisa Capozzoli -- 732-427-4146 E-MAIL: Click here to contact Lisa Capozzoli, lisa.capozzoli@mail1.monmouth.army.mil. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY. The US Army CECOM RDEC is seeking sources and information for Cables and Connectors. These components will be utilized as part of a combined assortment of products that represent a wearable computing system for a host of applications, to include civilian, military and professional uses. These components would be an integral part of the user's ability to operate the system in a safe, unobtrusive and mobile environment. Mobile -- can be carried, worn, and/or portably stored on an individual Durable -- has or can be protected from or functionally survive harsh environments and able to be connected and disconnected frequently without degradation in electrical properties or retention properties of connectors or cables Lightweight -- minimal physical burden on an individual, easy to carry and flexible Energy efficient -- used with low power, ability to conduct low voltages and digital signals from one module to another in an unobtrusive and electrically efficient manner with minimal electrical losses Survivable -- is functional in varied weather, climate and geographic conditions to include elevated temperature, extreme cold, and high moisture or humidity laden environments Electromagnetic Interference -- cables and connectors must be able to conduct various digital signals and low voltages without adversely affecting or causing EMI, EMC or RFI interference Compatibility -- cables and connectors must be able to interface with BUS/LAN and Firewire, RS232, and other similar cables and connectors Waterproof and Moisture Resistant- cables and connectors must be waterproof and able to be submerged without degradation of electrical connections and/or interfaces Quick Disconnect -- cables and connectors must be suitable for use where quick disconnect applications are necessary Flexible -- cables must be flexible and capable of withstanding repeated bending and twisting without loss of connectivity and function Corrosion resistant -- connectors mustbe corrosion resistant, especially when used in alkaline and other harsh environments Abrasion and Tear Resistant -- cable insulation must be tear and abrasion resistant to withstand harsh handling and heavy use As applicable, respondents should identify the performance characteristics of their product(s) that addresses the above, to include physical/electrical interface(s), physical dimensions and software compatibility. Availability of product, and examples of its use are also requested. Desired performance characteristics of the component shall consist of all weather, day and night operation. This component should be an integral part of a system that enhances one or more performance characteristics as applied toward a wearable computing set of hardware and its applications. REQUIREMENTS: Ribbon Cables and Connectors capable of interfacing with BUS/LAN, power, Firewire, RS232, etc. in an abrasion, tear resistant, and waterproof insulating covering that can endure heavy use in harsh environments. Cables and connectors must be lightweight, flexible, durable, and waterproof when used in varied harsh environments. See description above for special considerations and properties for compatibility and use with system. Suitable products should be compatible with the system description and all requirements mentioned above to the fullest extent feasible and possible. PROPRIETARY INFORMATION IS NOT BEING SOLICITED. The government will not reimburse contractors or responders to this notice for any costs incurred in responding, or in subsequent exchanges of information. Organizations having the expertise and capabilities to provide the required item are invited to submit information discussing such capabilities. It should be submitted not later than 21 August 2000 and should consist of a total of no more than 25 pages, excluding any marketing and/product brochures. NOTE: Information submitted does not constitute a proposal, but will be considered an exchange of capabilities and ideas. Responses may be submitted electronically to the addresses below. Technical questions and responses should be addressed to: Lisa Capozzoli, AMSEL-RD-C2-PMSM, Bldg 2705, Fort Monmouth, NJ, 732-427-4146, e-mail: lisa.capozzoli@mail1.monmouth.army.mil.
