The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Hopewell Designs, 1925 Grassland Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30201 under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) for One (1) Linear Positioning System (LPS) with 3 Axes. The LPS shall have the following characteristics: X-Axis with 4M of travel, Y-Axis with 2M of travel, Z-Axis with 1.5M of travel; rotational axis with 360 degrees of travel; Computer-controlled servo motors on all axes; rigid structure made from extruded aluminum platform; 70cm diameter with 1cm grid and 10cm bolt hole pattern; load rating of 300kg; positioning accuracy of +/- 1mm; and 0.5 degree rotation laser alignment. This equipment must be obtained from Hopewell because it is specifically designed to be integrated with the Hopewell designed computer controller system, driver software, stand, and shield unit that is presently being used by the NIST Radioactivity Group's Virtual Gamma-Ray Calibration Facility. The entire system must be manufactured and supplied by Hopewell Designs to maintain the system's integrated programmatic operability and consistence with other Hopewell designed calibration range facilities within NIST Ionizing Radiation Division. Based on literature and expert surveys, the Hopewell linear translation table is the only one that will work seamlessly with the existing control system without expensive modification and replacement.
