The system was developed by INEEL scientists to detect and measure specific environmental contaminants by monitoring changes in the optical absorption capacity of corresponding detector films. A distinguishing system feature is the use of retro reflectors in the sensors to enable inexpensive remote readout. Potential applications include: air quality measurement in remote or hazardous locations. This proprietary technology represents a potential licensing and development opportunity with Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), the prime contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). BBWI is soliciting written indications of interest from companies interested in commercializing the technology by funding technology development and/or by licensing the technology for commercialization.
