is planning an information gathering cross talk conference to discuss
the new upcoming acquisition for the Advanced Range Data System (ARDS)
Enhancement Program (ARDSE). The ARDSE program will develop a more
robust ARDS capability by developing state-of-the-art technology and
incorporating advanced technology commercial products/standards to
achieve the T&E requirements of the 21st century and to support
interoperability with the training community and with our Allies. The
principle capabilities to be addressed in this program are: (1)
efficient packaging and miniaturization for better internal mounting
flexibility for advanced and smaller airborne platforms as well as for
pod mount configurations; (2) flexible-spectrum efficient, high speed
data transfer, control and transmission capabilities; (3) increased
TSPI accuracy incorporating SAASM and "M" code capable GPS operation;
and (4) standardization of interface protocols as outlined in the
Plug-and-Play concept. This program will meet the new requirements by
incorporating advanced technology GPS receivers interfaced with highly
accurate inertial reference units (IRU). Desired characteristics for
these GPS/IRU components include: (1) commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS)
modular components and Non-Developmental Items (NDI); (2)
state-of-the-art, all-in-view GPS receivers with SAASM and Wide Area
GPS Enhancement (if deployed), Wide Area Augmentation System, and Local
Area Augmentation System capabilities; (3) jam resistant GPS receivers
and state-of-the-art GPS and data link antenna designs to optimize
system performance during high dynamic operations in a GPS and tactical
jamming environment; (4) a variety of high and low accuracy/cost
inertial units for flexibility to meet mission requirements; (5)
optimal real time and post-mission GPS data processing software
enhancements; and (6) high dynamic TSPI systems capable of operating on
high dynamic platforms (i.e., accelerations up to 20gs). The enhanced
ARDS data link system will incorporate the following characteristics:
(1) increased and variable data transfer rates; (2) increased frequency
spectrum efficiency and the flexibility to tune the system to other
band(s); (3) interface standardization and flexibility to allow maximum
use of COTS and NDI equipment; (4) participant-to-participant
communication to enhance off-range operational capability. Modularity
and flexibility will be built into the system to allow the ARDS
Enhanced PODS and plates to be reconfigured to meet the various mission
requirements. System modularity and miniaturization objectives include:
(1) miniaturized GPS receivers and inertial components for internal
mounts; (2) miniaturization of datalink components to allow for
internal mounting of datalink modules; and (3) increased capability to
use various power sources for embedded operations. The participant
system will efficiently interface with aircraft and weapon bus systems
via MIL-STD- 1553 and MIL-STD-1760 interfaces. Any industry interested
in the ARDSE program is encourage toattend the cross talk conference.
The conference will run from 8:00 A.M until noon on both 21 August and
22 August 2000. Interested industry should contact Mr. John Porche at
850-882-8601 ext 5010 to sign up. A draft Systems Requirement Document
will be available for review NLT 18 August 2000 at www.eps.gov. Posted
